MARLEAUX’S TAVERN
BAYOU AND BOURBON

Role: Creative DirectoR

In Partnership with Grant Weber

Bayou & Bourbon is a Louisiana inspired seasonal menu and guest favorite of Marlow’s Tavern. For its return in 2021, our team was tasked with rethinking the experience for the COVID-19 landscape. We needed something fun, ownable, and budget-friendly.

And so, Marleaux’s was created.

Marleaux’s. Same pronunciation. Fresh Cajun flavors.

By temporarily changing Marlow’s name and the Cheers to That tagline for the duration of Bayou & Bourbon, we showed our inner Cajun, and our heartfelt commitment to letting the Bon Temps Rouler! Because Bayou & Bourbon is as much about the attitude as it the food.

Visual direction

To help guide our design team, I started us off with a moodboard and notes on the visual style for Marleaux’s Tavern. It incorporated ironwork from NOLA influence, fleur de lis, and embellishments on an already established Marlow’s Tavern brand style.

A LOGO UPDATE

The new logos still contained the classic Marlow’s “M.” and other familiar elements of the original logos for brand recognition, but have their own fun, bayou style.

We changed our name to Marleaux's. Because everybody's got a little bayou in 'em.

Welcome to Marleaux's. And say hello to our inner Cajun.

PRINTABLE MENUS

Disposable paper menus of the seasonal offerings were cost-effective and sanitary but still leaned into the renamed tavern concept with copy straight from the bayou and icons for each entree, such as the fleur de lis behind the N’awlins-style Po-Boy.

MOBILE MENUS

During this time, the touchless mobile menu experience needed to be seamless and well-designed. We were able to bring a little color back into the design for easy to understand hierarchy.

Instagram grid TaKEOVER

To generate excitement, the campaign was announced on social media with a grid takeover.

STAMPS FOR “MARLEAUX'S TO GEAUX”

As a cost effective alternative to printing new packaging, stamps with the logos are quicker and more applicable to different sizes of to-go containers.
